Su misión es la de crear el ambiente propicio para el intercambio de conocimiento e información geológica utilizando para ello sistemas de redes globales de geoinformación. Este sitio Web será uno de los más importantes medios para que el CGI sus objetivos y misión.

Current technical collaboration activities:
- Interoperability Working Group - developing standards to enable seamless web integration of data hosted by different agencies.
- Multi-lingual thesaurus working group - developing a core multilingual vocabulary for Geosciences.
- Metadata forum - the rapid growth in the internet has raised the importance of Metadata.
- OneGeology - an interoperable geological map of the world.
