Peter Baumann

Dr Peter Baumann is professor of Computer Science at Jacobs University Bremen where he teaches databases, web services, and software engineering. He holds a PhD from Tech. University Darmstadt. His research interest focusses on large-scale multi-dimensional array databases and their application in earth and life sciences, Grid, e-learning, etc. Prior to joining Jacobs in 2004, he was consultant with Softlab GmbH, then Assistant Head of the Knowledge Base Research Group at the Bavarian Research Centre for Knowledge-based Systems, founder and CEO of two spin-off companies, and teaching at the University of the Armed Forces, Munich. He has authored and co-authored 70+ book chapters and papers on raster databases and further fields, and holds international patent on array databases. He has received a series of national and international innovation awards for his work. He is a member of the Open GeoSpatial Consortium (OGC, where he is co-chairing three working groups on raster services), of the Commission for the Management and Application of Geoscience Information, a founding member of CODATA Germany, and the ODMG group, among others.
